Food Insecurity is having limited or inconsistent access to healthy foods due to economic or other resource complaints. Food insecurity is caused caused by limited access to healthy choices due to the lack of large chain supermarkets low-income areas and the cost of traveling to this resource rich areas.
What are Built Environments?
Built environment ,such as lack of sidewalks and increased infrastructure in neighborhoods, can lead to less physical activity and more health issues. Build environment is defined as a physical environment that is constructed by humans. Built environments consist of land use patterns, transportation systems, activities buildings and housing distribution across space, and physical infrastructure such as sidewalks, bike paths, roads.
What is SNAP?
Many people who experience food insecurity often use food assistance programs to help aid in the expenses. SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ,also known as Food Stamps, and increases the purchasing power of low-income individuals with providing benefits to purchase foods at food stores. As funding for other assistance programs have lessened many low-income families rely heavily on the SNAP program.
